Antigypsyism, or antigypsyism, represents a specific form of racism directed against Roma people. It is systemic, deeply rooted, and often unrecognized. Therefore, the education of local actors – those who work daily with citizens – is crucial for its recognition and suppression.
At the workshop “How Present is Antigypsyism in Society and How to Respond to It?”, organized by the Roma Forum of Serbia and the City Municipality of Mladenovac, representatives of local self-government, educational institutions, media, and civil society gathered. The aim of the workshop was to familiarize participants with legislative and strategic frameworks, and also to develop concrete mechanisms for practical response through exercises.
Through an interactive approach, local needs, resources, and obstacles were mapped. Participants shared experiences from their respective fields of work and jointly defined proposals for future collaborative actions. Special emphasis was placed on the fact that the fight against discrimination is not solely the responsibility of the Roma community – it must be a priority for all of us.
The collected proposals and recommendations will be used to improve project activities, as well as for broader application in the work of local institutions. Such workshops are important because they strengthen the trust, knowledge, and capacity of the local community to respond to the challenges of inclusion.
