The project “Remembering for Peace – Remembrance of the Porajmos and Education about Antigypsyism” is dedicated to fostering dialogue, strengthening human rights, and empowering young people to actively contribute to building a more inclusive society. Through education, the exchange of experiences, and joint initiatives, the project creates space for discussions about Roma history, discrimination, and the importance of social solidarity.
One of the project’s key objectives is to increase the visibility of the history and suffering of Roma during the Second World War, known as the Porajmos, as an important part of European and regional history that has long been underrepresented in the public sphere. At the same time, the project seeks to empower both Roma and non-Roma youth to actively participate in discussions on discrimination, equality, and human rights, providing them with opportunities to share their views, experiences, and ideas with their peers and the wider community.
Through its activities, the project encourages cooperation among local communities, institutions, educational establishments, and civil society organizations, with the aim of creating sustainable partnerships and joint initiatives that contribute to greater understanding and social cohesion. Particular attention is given to strengthening dialogue, solidarity, and collective action in the fight against antigypsyism and all forms of discrimination.
Throughout the project, workshops, public events, artistic activities, and educational programs will be organized, providing young people with opportunities to explore historical topics, develop creative content, and transform their ideas into concrete initiatives that promote understanding, empathy, and positive social change.
Through these activities, the project aims to increase the visibility of Roma history and the suffering of Roma during the Second World War, create more space for the voices of Roma and non-Roma youth in discussions on discrimination and human rights, strengthen connections among local communities, institutions, and organizations, and contribute to dialogue, solidarity, and collective action against antigypsyism.
Based on the belief that lasting change is built through knowledge, dialogue, and collective action, the project encourages young people to become active members of their communities and advocates for a society founded on equality, respect for human rights, and appreciation of diversity.
Because change begins when important issues are discussed openly, honestly, and together.
